Origins

Chakra Tapping began with some Holmesian curiosity, and with pet loss.

Once upon a time, while working as a pet loss counselor (Pets in the Light), I became increasingly interested in finding new ways to help people through this difficult passage. Anyone who has shared their life with an animal companion knows how extraordinary that bond can be. Our pets offer an unconditional love that can be difficult to find elsewhere, and their passing can leave an enormous hole in our hearts.

In the 1990s, I discovered a fascinating new approach to emotional healing developed by Dr. Roger Callahan, involving gentle tapping on acupuncture points. I began incorporating it into my work, eventually blending it with my longstanding interests in chakras, Kundalini yoga, and the body's subtle energy system. Over the years, this combination grew into a much broader approach to personal and spiritual transformation, which I now call Chakra Tapping.

Although my scope has expanded since then, this subject remains especially close to my heart. I believe our relationships with animals can teach us a great deal about love, connection, and the nature of consciousness itself. In my work, I explore the possibility that these relationships continue beyond physical death, and even across lifetimes. Our animal companions may have much more to teach us than we ever imagined!

Today, I offer Chakra Tapping through online classes and private sessions, helping people explore their boundless potential with the same spirit of love, curiosity, and discovery that started this journey so many years ago.

The Best Version Of You

Embracing the best version of you isn't about fixing yourself. It's about discovering the essence of who you really are, and the life you were born to live.

That's the central idea behind Chakra Tapping, and it centers on energetically upgrading the beliefs that aren't serving us.

Chakra work IS belief work. Chakras open up as we hold uplifting thoughts, and shut down amidst unhealthy ones. The beliefs we hold are encoded in our chakras, and thoughts are more powerful than we typically believe. They literally create our reality. "We get what we think about, whether we want it or not." (Abraham-Hicks). That's Law of Attraction 101.

Our lower three chakras are especially important because they define the personal self. (As the heart chakra opens, we experience the universal self--the basis of authentic love.)  When we hold limiting beliefs in the lower three chakras, bad feelings restrict the flow of our life energy, diminishing the flow upwards to the heart. Chakra Tapping offers a gentle, practical way to explore those patterns and begin transforming them.

When life energy flows more freely through the lower chakras and reaches the heart, it's rather like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. The energy itself undergoes a transformation, and so do we.

Ultimately, that's what Chakra Tapping is about. Not simply feeling a little better about this problem or that problem, although that's certainly welcome, but gradually becoming a more loving, joyful, confident, and accepting version of yourself. The goal isn't perfection. It's allowing more of your true self to shine through, and discovering just how wonderful life can become when you begin living from the heart.

Be Curious!

"Be curious, not judgmental."   - Walt Whitman

There's a wonderful little shift that happens when we replace judgment with curiosity. Instead of asking, "What's wrong with me?" we begin asking, "Hmm, I wonder what's going on here?" It might sound like a small difference, but it can change our entire relationship with ourselves.

Curiosity is one of the most powerful tools we possess for personal transformation. It opens our minds, encourages creativity, makes learning more enjoyable, and helps us see possibilities where previously we saw only problems. Think about how naturally curious we were as children, before we learned to be so terribly serious about everything. We explored, experimented, asked endless questions, and generally regarded the world as a fascinating place. That ability hasn't disappeared. We simply need to invite it back.

In Chakra Tapping, curiosity is the foundation of our work. Rather than fighting an uncomfortable emotion or criticizing ourselves for holding a limiting belief, we approach the relevant chakra with genuine interest. What is it trying to tell us? What belief might be operating here? What would happen if we gave this part of ourselves a little more love and attention? Sometimes we even invite a chakra to appear in our imagination as an animal, allowing us to have a friendly little conversation with it. It may sound unusual, but imagination can be a wonderful doorway into self-discovery.

And here's something especially useful: you don't have to wait until you feel curious to begin. Curiosity is something we can deliberately cultivate. A little relaxation, a playful question, a willingness to suspend judgment, and suddenly a problem becomes something interesting to investigate. The trick is to approach ourselves with the friendly enthusiasm of a detective solving a fascinating mystery, rather than a judge handing down a verdict.

After all, we aren't here to put ourselves on trial. We're here to discover what makes us tick!  The game is afoot, Watson!

We Contain Multitudes

Your story is much bigger than you think.

What if the person you are today is only one chapter in a much larger story? One of the more adventurous aspects of my Chakra Tapping practice involves exploring the possibility that we've lived many lives, and that some of the beliefs and emotional patterns associated with those experiences may still influence us today.

In this framework, not every limiting belief necessarily originates in our present lifetime. Some of our fears, attractions, recurring relationship patterns, or feelings of unworthiness may have roots that extend much further back. We may even carry positive patterns from other lifetimes: talents, interests, affinities, and qualities that can enrich our present experience. There's potentially an enormous treasure chest of personal history waiting to be explored.

To pursue this idea, I was certified in Timeline Therapy by Tad James in 2001, and incorporated timeline work into Chakra Tapping. Using gentle visualization, we imagine rising above our personal timeline, viewing our life from a broader perspective, and allowing our awareness to travel beyond the familiar boundaries of our present experience. Through tapping, curiosity, and the loving energy of the heart chakra, we explore whatever patterns or symbolic experiences emerge, with the intention of releasing limiting beliefs while preserving the wisdom and positive qualities they may contain.

For me, the most important part of this work isn't proving the historical details of a particular past-life experience. It's the transformation that becomes possible through exploring it. Whether an experience is understood spiritually, symbolically, or intuitively, it can offer a fresh perspective on something we've been carrying around for a very long time.

We are so much more than the collection of worries, habits, and assumptions that occupy our everyday minds. And discovering just how much more can be quite an adventure.

KIFF (Keep It Fun, Folks)

Who says transformation has to be serious?

Somewhere along the way, many of us picked up the idea that personal growth is supposed to be hard work. If we're not struggling, confronting our shortcomings, or diligently fixing ourselves, perhaps we're not making enough progress. Well, I have a rather different philosophy: the more fun we can bring to the process, the better!

Playfulness isn't just a pleasant distraction from the important business of life. It's an important part of a healthy, creative, and emotionally satisfying existence. Having fun helps us relax, become more flexible in our thinking, connect with others, and rediscover the enthusiasm we so naturally possessed as children. When we're enjoying ourselves, we're also more inclined to explore, experiment, and try something new. And that makes playfulness a particularly good companion to curiosity.

That's why Chakra Tapping incorporates imaginative adventures, playful visualizations, gentle humor, and sometimes some rather unexpected characters. We might explore a chakra by imagining it as an animal, travel through a magical landscape, or take an imaginary journey along our timeline. These aren't merely entertaining additions to the serious work. They're part of how we approach the work itself, helping us step outside our habitual thinking and discover new ways of relating to ourselves.

Of course, not every issue we encounter is lighthearted. Some experiences deserve considerable tenderness and care. But even when we're working with difficult emotions, we don't have to make the process unnecessarily heavy. A little curiosity, a little self-acceptance, and perhaps the occasional smile can go a surprisingly long way.

My hope is that you'll come away from a Chakra Tapping class or session feeling not only more connected with yourself, but also a little more excited about being alive. Because personal transformation isn't supposed to be a punishment for being imperfect. It's an invitation to discover just how much love, joy, and possibility life has to offer.

And we might as well have a wonderful time along the way.
